What is Authenticity Guarantee?
eBay's Authenticity Guarantee is a service designed to help you buy and sell with confidence. Our Authenticators physically inspect all eligible items before they are sent to the buyer and inspect all returns prior to sending them back to the seller.
How does Authenticity Guarantee work?
All eligible items have an Authenticity Guarantee blue tick badge on the listing. When an eligible item is purchased, the seller is required to send the item to the Authentication Facility. The Authenticators will thoroughly inspect and verify your item's authenticity, and confirm the item and accessories are consistent with the listing title, description and images. Once verified, the Authenticators will send the item directly to the buyer via tracked express delivery.
Will I be charged a fee for Authenticity Guarantee?
No. Until further notice, there is no additional fee for Authenticity Guarantee for either the buyer or the seller. As part of the Authenticity Guarantee service, eBay currently covers the cost of authentication, as well as tracked express delivery from the Authentication Facility to the buyer.

How do I ensure my listing will be eligible for Authenticity Guarantee?
To ensure your listing will be eligible for the Authenticity Guarantee service, follow steps 1-3 set out below.
Meet all the eligibility requirements: A new or used handbag or briefcase of brands eligible for Authenticity Guarantee listed in Women's Bags & Handbags, Men's Bags & Briefcases, Men's Wallets and Women’s Wallets, Handbag accessories, ID/Document holders, Key chains, Rings & Finders, Belts, Hats, Organisers or Day Planners categories, and priced at $350 or more. Select the appropriate Item Condition when you list your handbag (note, it is important that you select the most accurate Item Condition to avoid your item not passing the authentication process and being returned to you):
New with tag
A brand-new, unused item in the original packaging (such as the original box and/or dust bag) and/or with original tags.
New without tag
A brand-new, unused item that is not in original packaging or may be missing original packaging materials (such as the original box and/or dust bag). For example, a new handbag (with absolutely no signs of wear) no longer in the original packaging falls into this category.
Pre-owned
An item that has been used, worn, or showing signs of wear. The item may be missing the original packaging materials or accessories. Make sure to include full details of any imperfections and missing packing and/or accessories in your listing description and photos.
Accurately describe your item in detail and take as many photographs as needed. Ensure that you capture any defects, including tears in the box and any anomalies on the handbag, etc. If using stock images or screenshots, they must include original accessories. If taking your photos, everything pictured will be assumed as included. Accurate documentation & photographs will ensure your item can flow through the authentication process smoothly.
How can I confirm my item qualified for Authenticity Guarantee?
A blue tick with "Authenticity Guarantee" will automatically appear on your item's listing page. Upon making a sale, you can also check your order details in the Seller Hub or My eBay sold section. If eligible, you will receive a confirmation email indicating your item sold with Authenticity Guarantee.
If I list my handbag for $350 and accept a Best Offer below $350 will it be eligible for Authenticity Guarantee?
Yes. Your item will be eligible for Authenticity Guarantee and sent to the authenticator for inspection. Items with a Buy It Now price of $350 or more with either auction format or Best Offer are also eligible.
How do you determine Authenticity Guarantee eligibility for auction-style listings?
All auction-style listings that sell for over $350 are eligible for Authenticity Guarantee, regardless of the starting price.
What happens at the Authentication Facility?
The Authenticator first confirms the item and collateral materials (such as accessories, dust bags, receipts and packaging) are consistent with the listing title, description, and images. Then they will thoroughly inspect and verify your item's authenticity. Once verified, the handbag will receive a swing tag and a unique Authenticity Guarantee card filled with detailed information about the item.
Finally, the handbag is placed inside an eBay branded dust bag and securely packaged inside an eBay box along with collateral materials. Each box is inspected to ensure durability before posting.
Authenticators take all precautions necessary to ensure the safety and protection of handbags, such as the use of ceramic blades to open packages and enclosed bins during the inspection process.
Are seller promotional items included in the repackaging?
Seller promotional collateral remains with the handbag through shipping. Only seller collateral that may damage the handbag in shipment, or that is violating eBay policy is removed.
Is there an authentication card?
Yes, all verified items come with an Authenticity Guarantee card containing details about the item such as brand and model.
Who is providing the authentication services?
eBay's team of professionally trained Authenticators vet and verify each bag, using detailed, physical inspection and advanced technical equipment in a state-of-the-art facility.
Can I offer combined postage?
Authenticity Guarantee items will not be eligible for combined postage promotions since each authenticated item is put into a separate order for processing. Please post all orders individually.
What is the estimated delivery time for Authenticity Guarantee items?
The Authenticator will inspect the item within two business days after they receive it. Once verified, the Authenticator will send the item directly to the buyer via a tracked express delivery service.
How do I track the status of my item?
You can track the status of your item throughout the process in the View Order Details section of your Seller Hub or My eBay.
Is signature confirmation required upon delivery?
Signature confirmation is required for all items that cost over $750 (excluding postage costs).
Can a buyer choose to not have the item authenticated?
No, eBay's Authenticity Guarantee is a service designed to protect buyers and sellers.
What should I do if I need to cancel the order?
If you can't complete a sale with a buyer, you can cancel the order by locating the sale on the Orders tab in Seller Hub (or the Sold section in My eBay) and following the cancellation process. The buyer will be notified of the order cancellation immediately. Learn more about cancelling an order.
When I sell my item, where am I sending the item?
eBay will provide you with the address of the Authentication Facility along with the buyer's name and a unique ID number, known as an eBay Virtual Tracking Number. Please use the exact address eBay provides and include the eBay Virtual Tracking Number on Address Line 2. Once the Authenticator verifies the handbag, they will send it to the buyer's address at no extra cost to you.
How do I provide tracking information?
Once you've sent the item, you'll need to upload tracking information in My eBay. Providing tracking information ensures your item will be inspected and seller protections cover you. It also allows buyers to track the progress of their purchases through each step of our authentication process.
Can buyers return items purchased with Authenticity Guarantee?
Buyers can return an item if you (the seller) accept returns, as stated in the listing, and the return takes place within the seller's return window. Note, even if you do not accept returns, the buyer may be eligible to return if the item is not consistent with the listing under the eBay Money Back Guarantee. If you sell on eBay as a business, you may also have obligations under the Australian Consumer Law.
How does the return process work with Authenticity Guarantee?
If the buyer is returning an item, we will instruct the buyer to send it back to the Authentication Facility. eBay currently covers the return postage costs from the buyer to the Authentication Facility. Within two business days of receiving the item, the Authenticator will check to verify that the returned item matches the original item, including any original packaging and/or accessories, and condition sent to the buyer. For an item to be eligible for a return, the eBay swing tag must remain attached to the item and untampered. Once the return is verified, the Authenticator will send the item back to you (the seller) at no extra cost. Otherwise, the handbag will be sent back to the buyer.
Why was my item returned to me by the Authenticator?
Your item may be returned to you if the Authenticator cannot verify the authenticity of the item or if the item is not consistent with your photographs and item description. You will not be charged for the cost of return postage, and a refund will be issued to the buyer immediately. If the item's authenticity cannot be verified, you will cooperate with removing the item from marketplace circulation.
What will happen if I send an off-brand item(s) with the handbag?
We will not send off-brand item(s) to a buyer, even if the seller includes them in the listing description. We will only send back off-brand item(s) if the seller provides a return label. Off-brand items are accessories or collateral items that do not match or belong to the handbag brand.
What will happen if my item doesn't pass the authenticity check?
If the authenticity of an item cannot be verified, or the item's condition is not consistent with the listing, it will be sent back to you (the seller), and a refund will be issued to the buyer.
If an item passes our authenticity checks but has a minor discrepancy with its listing, we will notify you and the buyer. The buyer will be able to review the authenticator's notes and pictures, and confirm whether they would still like to go ahead with the purchase. If the buyer decides to go ahead with the purchase, please note that the item will still be eligible for protection under the eBay Money Back Guarantee if it otherwise meets all the eligibility criteria under the eBay Money Back Guarantee policy. If the buyer declines the item or doesn't respond within the time frame provided, it will be returned to you and the buyer will receive a refund.
What will happen if my item is damaged or lost while in possession of the authenticator?
In the unlikely event your item is lost or damaged while in possession of the authentication facility, eBay will cover such loss or damage of the item.
What will happen if my item is damaged or lost in transit when the authenticator sends it to the buyer?
In the unlikely event your item is lost or damaged, please notify eBay Customer Support.
What protections does eBay have for sellers?
We have protections for sellers who send their items to the authenticator within their stated handling time. Once the item goes through inspection and is sent to the buyer, sellers are fully protected against any negative or neutral feedback. The Item Not Received cases will be removed from the Service Metrics dashboard before the next evaluation cycle. Should an Item Not Received case be closed and a refund issued to the buyer, the seller will not be responsible for that refund as long as eBay has tracking confirming delivery to the Authenticator, which can be found in the View Order Details.
