Buyer Protection gives buyers added confidence when shopping on eBay. A mandatory Buyer Protection fee is applied to listings by sellers without a Pro subscription. This fee is included in the price the buyer sees when shopping so there are no surprises at checkout. Listings from Pro sellers include Buyer Protection at no additional cost to the buyer. For sellers without a Pro subscription, the Buyer Protection fee is paid by the buyer to eBay. It does not reduce the payout you will receive. 

For Pro sellers, Buyer Protection is included at no extra cost to buyers or sellers, since Pro sellers pay transaction fees with each item that sells.

Buyer Protection fee is calculated as:

• A flat fee of $0.30 per item, and
• 8% of the item price up to $20, and
• 6% of any portion of the item price from $20 to $500, and
• 4% of any portion of the item price from $500 to $5,000

Any portion of the item price over $5,000 won't incur any additional fee. The Buyer Protection fee is always inclusive of GST.

When setting the item price during listing, you’ll see the Buyer Protection fee amount and the total item price that buyers will see on the listing. You'll be able to review your listing price, the Buyer Protection fee, and the total item price the buyer will see before completing your listing. You’ll see the full price a buyer pays during the listing flow, including the Buyer Protection fee. This helps you price your item with confidence.

No, the Buyer Protection fee is paid by the buyer to eBay. Your payout is based on your item price + shipping (minus any seller-paid fees that apply, like international selling fees where relevant).

Once a buyer’s order is confirmed, you can send the item. Your funds will typically be available once the item’s delivered, or shortly after the buyer pays if you’ve met the required criteria. Any applicable fees and costs, such as optional listing upgrade fees, Promoted Listing fees or postage label costs, are deducted from your sales proceeds.
