Make sure you understand these points to help you sell effectively on eBay.com.au:

  • You must offer PayPal on all your listings, except for a small number of exceptions.
  • Buyers can also pay with Visa or MasterCard for a limited number of transactions without needing a PayPal account. The transaction will still be processed by PayPal so they can benefit from buyer protection and greater security.
  • If you list your items on international eBay sites you must offer PayPal for your items to appear on eBay.com.au.
  • No PayPal account yet? You can still list items for sale, but you’ll need to open an account to collect your funds.
  • PayPal Seller Protection can protect you against losses you’re not responsible for.
  • To be eligible for PayPal Seller Protection you’ll need to provide proof of shipment.
  • You may prefer to use a cheaper postage option for lower value items but you will not be eligible for Seller Protection.

PayPal has created a series of online demos to help you sell on eBay.com.au.

Did you know?

  • In 2007 PayPal sellers on eBay.com.au were almost half as likely to experience an unpaid item than sellers who did not accept PayPal.
  • In 2007 those who paid with PayPal on eBay.com.au were almost four times less likely to have a dispute over their purchase than bank deposit users.
  • Using PayPal can protect you from identity theft as you don’t need to share your financial details with strangers.
  • If you choose to offer pay on pick up (ie paid for when picking up the item) we recommend you accept cash or bank cheque after you’ve met the buyer.
  • PayPal Seller Protection is not currently available for pay on pick up transactions. We recommend you request photo ID and get a signed receipt from your buyer which may help to discourage any attempt at fraud.
