How does the Security Key work?
The Security Key is a small electronic device that works with any eBay-compatible computer operating system and Web browser. It generates a unique six-digit code each time you sign in to eBay. The Security Key provides an additional layer of protection by preventing unauthorized users from signing in to your eBay account.

Does the Security Key work for both eBay and PayPal accounts?
Yes-but you must activate the Security Key separately for eBay and for PayPal. To use it when signing in to both eBay and PayPal, you must activate your Security Key twice-once on eBay and once on PayPal.

Do I need the Security Key every time I sign in to my account?
Yes. Once you have activated your Security Key on eBay, you will be prompted to enter a six-digit security code generated by the Security Key to access your account. No matter where you sign in, you'll have the peace of mind that your account is protected by the Security Key.

What if I lose my Security Key?
You can still sign in to your eBay account if you have lost, damaged, or temporarily misplaced your Security Key. However, before you are able to sign in, we will phone you on one of the numbers you have registered to your account, in order to verify your identity. Then you will be able to sign in.

Where should I keep my Security Key?
We recommend that you keep your compact, portable Security Key with you, so that you can access your account--wherever you are. We also recommend that you don't store the Security Key with your computer.

Can I deactivate my Security Key?
Yes. After you have activated your Security Key, you can your manage your Security Key from My eBay. You will see an additional section on the page that allows you to deactivate or reactivate your Security Key.

Can I have more than one Security Key active on my account?
No. You may only activate one Security Key per eBay account.
