How to protect yourself

  • If you are in any doubt that an email claiming to be from eBay or PayPal is genuine, forward it to spoof@ebay.com.au or spoof@paypal.com.au and then delete it.

  • If you think you have responded to a fake email or submitted your details to a website you now suspect to be fraudulent, report it to eBay immediately so we can take steps to protect your account.

  • You can also use our Live Help service to chat online with one of our customer service professionals right now.

  • Sign in to My eBay or your PayPal account to see if any unusual activity has occurred and change your password straight away.
  • If you have provided any financial information you should contact your bank to freeze any accounts or credit cards that you think may have been compromised.
  • If you are a victim of identity theft you can also contact your local police to report the crime. The Australian Crime Commission operates an Identity Protection Register for those affected. Call (02) 6243 6666 for more information.
