PayPal Buyer Protection

How do I know my item is eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection?

To see if your item is eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection look for the PayPal icon in the 'Buy safely' section of the item description page and then check the Eligibility Requirements in the PayPal Buyer Protection policy.

For your item to be eligible for up to $3,000, you must meet all the following requirements at the time of listing:

  • You have a feedback score of 50 or more with a 98% or more positive rating.
  • You have a verified PayPal Premier or Business account. 3
  • You offer PayPal as a payment option to prospective buyers (PayPal Buyer Protection only covers items paid for with PayPal).
  • You have a PayPal account in good standing.
  • The item is listed on ebay.com.au.

Important: Remember to retain proof that you've shipped your item to the buyer.

If a buyer claims they did not receive the item I sent, what can I do?

To enable us to resolve the dispute, remember to retain proof that you've shipped your item to the buyer. Examples of proof of shipment include:

  • A faxed copy of the shipping receipt that includes the buyer's delivery address. You can get this from Australia Post's Registered Post and Australia Post's Registered Post International
  • A shipping code that PayPal can use online to view the shipping status and the buyer's delivery address. You can get this from TNT, DHL, FedEx, and other carriers.
  • Have an eBay Feedback score of 50 or more
  • A receipt issued by the carrier that is signed by the recipient acknowledging delivery

When can a buyer claim that an item was significantly not as described?

PayPal Buyer Protection may cover buyers for eligible items not delivered or those 'significantly not as described'. Items considered 'significantly not as described':

  • The item is completely different than what the seller had presented in their listing.
  • The condition of the item is significantly different.
  • The item is unusable and was not disclosed as such.
  • The item is not authentic and was advertised as authentic in the listing.
  • The item is missing a major portion or quantity and was not described as such.
