Make Sure You're Covered
5 Things You Must Do To Qualify For Vehicle Purchase Protection
 |
 |
Do NOT pay with Western Union or MoneyGram
Sellers who try to commit fraud often insist on payment using Western Union or MoneyGram and will make many excuses to make you pay in this manner. Do not pay with Western Union or MoneyGram, it is a breach of eBay's payment options policy and you will not be covered by Vehicle Purchase Protection. If they insist on using this form of payment we would advise you not to proceed with the purchase. |
 |
 |
The Car must be in Australia
If the car is located overseas and the seller promises to ship it to you, it will not be covered by Vehicle Purchase Protection and we would advise you not to proceed with the purchase. Cars located within Australia but in another state can be covered if all other eligibility criteria are met. The car must have been listed on the Australian eBay website (ebay.com.au). |

 |
The Seller must be in Australia
Sellers who try to commit fraud are often located in foreign countries and they will tell you that they have recently moved overseas or are on holiday. If the seller is not physically located in Australia then the car you are thinking of buying is not eligible for vehicle purchase protection. We would advise you not to proceed with the purchase. |

 |
The Seller must have a good eBay record
The Seller must be a member of eBay who has not been suspended and they must have a feedback score of zero or above. If the seller has a feedback score less than zero your purchase will not be covered by Vehicle Purchase Protection. Also, if the seller or the listing gets suspended by eBay we would advise you not to proceed with the purchase. |

Additional Terms and Conditions
These are the key eligibility criteria but there are additional eligibility criteria and other terms and conditions for the Vehicle Purchase Protection program and you should also read the full policy wording. |
Giving You Peace Of Mind
The Vehicle Purchase Protection program is an insurance policy that can protect you against fraud or misrepresentation. The policy has been arranged by eBay with a major insurer at no additional cost to members and it will help to protect you against situations such as:
- Paying for a car but not receiving it
- Fraud or misrepresentations in the seller's listing as to the seller's ownership of or title to the car
- Undisclosed third party charges or encumbrances affecting the car
- Receiving a different make or model of car than was described
- Not receiving or not being able to register the certificate of title for the car
- Unreturned deposits if the transaction is not completed
- Undisclosed damage to the car, providing the cost of repairing the damage exceeds $1,000
There's no additional sign-up, opt-in, or registration necessary for either the buyer or seller, although buyers will have to agree to the terms and conditions if they want to make a claim under the insurance policy.
*Terms and Conditions apply. VPP insurance only applies to the purchase of an eligible vehicle by an eligible purchaser. VPP insurance does not apply with Drive listings shown on the eBay Motors site. The purchase of the eligible vehicle must be completed online via an Auction or Buy-It-Now listing. The VPP may also apply to Classified Ad listings where the transaction has been made online using the Best Offer feature. We recommend that you read the Terms and Conditions and the full policy wording.
Amended policy terms apply to eligible vehicles listed for sale after 30 July 2007. Please refer to the Summary of key policy changes. If you have a problem with the purchase of a vehicle, or want to make a claim please read our VPP claims procedure.
Shouldn't your car purchase be protected? We think so.
