Reporting intellectual property infringements (VeRO)

Overview of VeRO

eBay developed the Verified Rights Owner (VeRO) Program to help protect not only intellectual property, but the consumer as well.

Highlights of the VeRO program include:

  • Fast removal of listings reported to eBay by thousands of intellectual property rights owners

  • Proactive monitoring and removal of listings that violate eBay policies designed to prevent the listing of infringing items on eBay

  • Ability to save searches and have the results emailed to you

  • Suspension of repeat offenders

  • Cooperation with rights owners seeking personal information on alleged infringers

Because intellectual property owners are ultimately responsible for protecting their intellectual property, and eBay isn't an expert in an intellectual property owner's rights, we need your help in identifying listings that you believe may infringe your rights.

How to report a listing to eBay

Only the intellectual property rights owner, or somebody authorised by the intellectual property rights owner, can report potentially infringing items or listings through eBay's VeRO Program.

If you are not the intellectual property rights owner, or authorised by the intellectual property rights owner to report potentially infringing items or listings through eBay's VeRO Program, you can still help by getting in touch with the rights owner and encouraging them to contact us.

If you have a good faith belief that a listing on eBay infringes your copyright, trademark or other intellectual property rights, here's how to report it to eBay:

What happens then?
  • After we have processed your first Notice of Claimed Infringement (NOCI), we may send you an electronic version of the NOCI form as well as instructions on how to submit future reports electronically.

  • We encourage you to educate eBay users about your products and legal positions by creating a VeRO Participant page. We have found that many of our users cease listing potentially infringing items when presented with such information.

Learn how to set up your VeRO participant page. Once you have posted your page, send us an email at vero@ebay.com.au and we'll include it in our list of VeRO participant pages.
