Writing a Guide

Write a guide and share your knowledge or opinions about almost any topic with the entire eBay community. To write a guide, visit Guides, and click the "Write a guide!" link.

  1. Create a guide title.
This title will be viewable in the Guides search results.

  2. Write the guide text.
Write the main text of your guide. With the editing tool, you can change the appearance of the text, add bullet points and more. Guides have a 20,000-character limit. Remember: Your character count includes text, links, pictures, and HTML formatting.

  3. Add links to eBay searches and other eBay pages (optional).
For example, if you have written about vintage toys, you can add a link to an eBay search for vintage toys:
    1. Click "Link."
    2. In the eBay search box, enter the words used to run your eBay search. For example, "toy fire engine vintage."
    3. In the Name of Link field, enter the text that will represent the link in your guide. In this example, "Vintage Toy Fire Engines."
    4. Click the "Add Link" button to add the link to your guide.

You can also enter URLs for eBay pages directly in the "eBay Web Page" field. Use this choice to link to complex eBay searches, Stores Pages, About Me Pages and more.

  4. Add pictures (optional).
Using eBay Picture Services, you can upload pictures into your guide. Click on the "browse" button to find the picture on your computer. Then click "insert" and the picture will appear in the guide text box.

  5. Enter tags.
Tags are important words related to your guide and will help users find your guide when they search. Pick words that are important to your guide. For example, a guide about vintage toys might include the tags: "toys," "vintage toys," "fire engines," "miniatures," and "dolls."

Based on the title and tags of your guide, the system will recommend up to three categories where your guide will be saved. After you click "Save & Continue," you will be able to unselect categories that do not seem appropriate for your guide.
