Frequently Asked Questions about Second Chance Offer
Q. What is a Second Chance Offer?
A. It is a feature that allows a seller to offer an item to a non-winning bidder at the bidder's maximum bid amount if the high bidder is unable to pay, or if the seller has more than one item available for purchase. The offer will be accessible only to the seller and the selected non-winning bidder. If the item does not sell, it will end after a period that is specified by the seller.

Sellers should ensure that everything has been done to resolve the issue with the winning bidder before sending Second Chance Offer in the case of a non-paying buyer situation. See the Non-Paying Buyer program for details. This offer does not apply to Dutch Auctions.

Q. Why should the seller send a Second Chance Offer?
A. The Second Chance Offer feature gives sellers a second chance at selling an item quickly and easily with all the benefits of eBay's services. It also allows sellers to sell duplicate items to their non-winning bidders as well as the high bidder. Best of all, creating a Second Chance Offer is FREE. Sellers pay only the Final Value Fee when the offer is accepted.

Q. Who is eligible for a Second Chance Offer?
A. Second Chance Offers can be sent to the non-winning bidders if the high bidder does not complete a purchase or if a seller has duplicate items. Second Chance Offers can be created immediately after a listing ends for up to 60 days. Sellers should ensure that everything has been done to resolve the issue with the high bidder before sending a Second Chance Offer to another bidder. See the Non-Paying Buyer program for details.

Note: The Second Chance Offer will not be sent to bidders who have opted not to receive them.

Q. How does a seller send a Second Chance Offer?
A. Sellers can send a Second Chance Offer from any of these pages:
  • Bid History (Go to your closed listing and then click on the Bid History link)
  • My eBay (Under the Selling tab, click the Send a Second Chance Offer link)
  • Item page for a closed listing (Sign in with your user ID and you will see a link in the top section)
  • Non-Paying Buyer Program

Note: Second Chance Offer link is only available for closed listings with at least one non-winning bidder.

Q. Who can view the Second Chance Offer?
A. Any seller can view his or her Second Chance Offer. Remember: Only the non-winning bidder who receives a Second Chance Offer can view and purchase it.

Q. Are there any fees for sending a Second Chance Offer?
A. eBay does not charge an Insertion Fee to send a Second Chance Offer. Sellers pay only the Final Value Fee when the offer is accepted.

Q. How does feedback work with Second Chance Offers?
A. Sellers can leave feedback for buyers who have purchased their item. Buyers, as usual, can leave feedback for the seller. For example, a seller can leave feedback for the Non-paying Buyer in the first transaction and for the buyer in the Second Chance Offer transaction.

Q. In the event that something goes wrong with the transaction, can the buyer file a claim?
A. Yes. Second Chance Offer transactions are covered by eBay.au services. Under the eBay Buyer Protection Program, most items on eBay.au are covered.

Q. As a buyer, what if I do not wish to receive a Second Chance Offer?
A. If you do not wish to receive a Second Chance Offer, simply go to http://cgi4.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?OptinLoginShow where you may modify your notification preferences.
