Creating a Seller's Account

To sell on eBay you need to register to become an eBay member and become a seller. Becoming a seller is a free one-time process.

To become a seller, you will:

1) Select how you will pay your eBay fees.

When becoming a seller, you need to select how you pay your seller fees. You won't be charged anything to register as a seller. We'll only charge your account when you list or sell an item.

You can pay your seller fees using any of the following payment methods:

  • PayPal

  • Credit or debit card

Make sure that you have your payment information available before you start listing your first item.

For more details, see Paying your seller fees

Note: If you want to use PayPal to accept credit card and electronic bank payments online, eBay recommends signing up before you list your first item for sale. Sign up for PayPal.

2) Confirm your identity.

To keep eBay a safe place to buy and sell, you may also be asked to confirm your identity with an automated phone call. (If you've recently confirmed your identity, you may not need to do it again.)

We'll call you at the phone number registered on your account or at another number that you specify. If you're unable to receive a phone call, you'll also have an option to confirm your identity by contacting customer support to complete your identify confirmation.

Note: If you want to pay your eBay fees using PayPal, you will be asked to confirm your identity before you provide us with your PayPal information

3) Offer a safer payment method

eBay wants to ensure that the marketplace offers buyers safe and convenient payment choices for the marketplace.

For most categories of listings on eBay.com.au, sellers need to offer at least one of the following safer payment choices:

  • PayPal

  • Paymate

  • Credit card processed through the seller's Internet merchant account

You can sign up for PayPal before you list your first item for sale, or you can sign up when you list your first item.

For more information, see Selecting payment methods you'll accept.
