Is my item allowed on eBay?

There are certain items that may not be sold on eBay. eBay may end a listing early if it violates one of our stated policies. In such cases, eBay will notify both the seller, as well as bidders, via email when a listing has been ended.

Before you list your item, it is a good idea to review eBay's Prohibited and Restricted items policy to see if it is on the list of what may not be sold on eBay. These guidelines and policies are designed to help you trade safely and legally on eBay.

These policies involve:

  • Prohibited items – These items may not be listed on eBay.

  • Questionable items – These items may be listed under certain conditions.

  • Potentially infringing items – These items may be in violation of certain copyrights, trademarks, or other rights. Some items listed here are not allowed, even though they may be legal, because they almost always violate copyright or trademark laws.

eBay’s listing policies also provide guidelines on how an item may be listed and described. Items may be removed for violations of the Listing Policies.

Note: Even if you offer to give away for "free" (rather than sell) a prohibited, questionable, or infringing item, this will not relieve you of potential liability. This applies to both seller and buyer.

Tip: Remember, if an item is illegal, buyers may be subject to liability for purchasing the item.
