To upload pictures in Picture Manager, click the Add Pictures button. You can upload the following file types in Picture Manager:
- JPEG (.jpg file extension)
- BMP (.bmp file extension)
- GIF (.gif file extension)
- TIF (.tif file extension)
- PNG (.png file extension)
- Animated .gif (Internet Explorer only) (.gif file extension)
You can upload pictures using either the Basic Uploader or the Enhanced Uploader depending on the
Operating System and Web browser you are using.
Basic Uploader
The Basic Uploader can be used on all the supported operating system and browser configurations.
Select the pictures to upload from your computer
To choose the pictures you want to upload from your computer, click a Browse button. A file dialogue box will open where you can browse all the folders on your computer and navigate to the folder containing the picture you want to upload. Select the picture file you want to upload and click the "OK" or "Open" button. This will select the picture file so that it will be uploaded when you click the Upload All button.
You can select up to 6 pictures at a time to upload when using Picture Manager in My eBay. When uploading to Picture Manager on other pages, such as the Sell Your Item Pictures & Details page, where you are inserting your pictures, you can select up to the number of pictures that can be inserted at that time (but no more than 6). After the upload is complete, the new pictures will automatically be inserted along with any existing Picture Manager pictures you inserted. For example, consider the case where you are creating a listing with the Sell Your Item form, where you have already inserted 9 existing Picture Manager pictures on the Pictures & Details page and want to add other new pictures. In this case, the Basic Uploader will provide only 3 file boxes since the maximum number of pictures per listing using an eBay item page layout is 12. When you select and upload the 3 new pictures, they will automatically be inserted in the listing along with the existing Picture Manager pictures you inserted.
Select Original Size and Watermark Options
You can select options to store copies of your pictures at their original sizes and to add watermarks to them.
For each of your pictures, Picture Manager will automatically create several copies with standard dimensions for use in predefined eBay page layouts. By selecting the Original Size option, you are instructing Picture Manager to keep an additional copy with the same dimensions of your original pictures. When using Picture Manager, you can use these original-sized pictures by adding Web links in eBay forms that allow you to add HTML for custom content.
You can also choose to watermark your pictures with the eBay Picture Services logo and with your User ID (up to 20 characters). The logo will appear at the bottom right corner of the picture; your user ID will appear at the bottom left corner.
Regardless of whether you choose to keep an original-sized copy or apply watermarks, the original pictures stored on your computer are not changed or deleted when uploading to Picture Manager. Note, however, that storing original-sized copies will add to the amount of your storage space used by the pictures you upload.
For more information on picture sizes and watermarking, see Standardising and Watermarking Pictures
Select a Folder
Use the drop-down menu of folder names to choose the Picture Manager folder where you want to store the pictures when they are uploaded. You can add folder, rename, and delete folders in the album view in My eBay
Upload pictures to Picture Manager
To upload the pictures with the options you selected, click the Upload All button. While uploading, the Basic Uploader will display a status gauge in a popup window.
The Basic Uploader does not compress pictures before upload. Upload time depends on the size of your originals and the speed of your Internet connection. With a 56K modem dialup connection, a 1MB picture file will require about 2 minutes; with a cable broadband connection, the same upload will require only a few seconds.
Enhanced Uploader
If you are using Windows 98SE and Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher, you can optionally use the eBay Enhanced Uploader for Picture Manager displayed below.
The Enhanced Uploader provides the same features as the Basic Uploader and in addition enables you to:
- Preview pictures
- Rename pictures
- Crop pictures
- Rotate pictures
- AutoFix (automatically improve contrast and brightness) pictures
- Manually adjust the contrast and brightness of pictures
- Upload up to 150 pictures at one time (within the limits of the storage space your subscription provides)
- Enjoy faster upload times.
Downloading, Installing, and Selecting the Enhanced Uploader
If you are using a supported version of Windows and Internet Explorer, then the first time you click the Add Pictures button in Picture Manager you will be prompted to download the Enhanced Uploader software (an Active X control) from eBay. Accept the prompts (which are different for different versions of Windows and Internet Explorer) to install the software. Download and installation take about 1 to 2 minutes.
If you have been using the Basic Uploader and would like to try the Enhanced Uploader, click the link displayed at the bottom of the Basic Uploader window. This link is only displayed if your computer is capable of using the Enhanced Uploader.
If you have previously used eBay Picture Services to upload pictures on a listing-by-listing basis, you might already have the Enhanced Uploader installed and ready to use when you click the Add Pictures button the first time in Picture Manager.
Note: Windows and Internet Explorer security and privacy settings and 3rd-party software (firewalls, popup blockers, ad blockers) can interfere with the installation and use of the Enhanced Uploader. You can always click the link on the uploader page to switch to the Basic Uploader if you have problems that you can't correct by changing your software settings.
Note: eBay occasionally issues updates to the Enhanced Uploader software. Depending on your browser settings, updates will download and install automatically when available or you will be prompted to install them.
Select the pictures to upload from your computer
To choose the pictures you want to upload from your computer, click the Add Pictures button in the Enhanced Uploader window. A file dialogue box will open where you can browse all the folders on your computer and navigate to the folder containing the pictures you want to upload. Select the picture files you want to upload and click the OK or Open button. The Enhanced Uploader window will display thumbnail versions of all the pictures you selected for upload.
You can select for upload at one time as many pictures as you like when using Picture Manager in My eBay, except that you may not exceed the limit of 150 pictures each Picture Manager folder may contain. When uploading to Picture Manager on other pages, such as the Sell Your Item form, where you are inserting your pictures, you can select up to the number of pictures that can be inserted on that page. In those cases, the Enhanced Uploader will display how many pictures already have been inserted and how many unused picture slots are available. You will only be able to upload up to the number of available slots. The pictures you upload there will automatically be inserted along with the existing Picture Manager pictures you inserted.
Preview, name, and adjust your pictures
To preview your pictures and adjust them before you upload, click the thumbnail pictures individually. When you click a thumbnail, you will see a larger preview of that picture on the right side of the Enhanced Uploader window. You can rename the selected picture by entering a new name in the field below the preview. You will also see the size and dimensions of your original picture displayed below the preview.
The following picture adjustments to the picture currently displayed in the preview are available by clicking the command buttons:
| Command Button |

 |
Rotate the picture 90 degrees |
 |
Crop the picture to include only a rectangular area. Adjust the area by dragging the two square "handles" that display at the corners of the preview picture when you click the Crop button |
 |

 |
Manually decrease the contrast |
 |
Manually increase the contrast |
 |
Manually decrease the brightness |
 |

If you make an adjustment and don't like the result, then clicking the "Undo" button will restore the picture to its previous appearance.
Select Original Size and Watermark Options
Options available for storing original-size copies of uploaded pictures and for watermarking them are identical to those for the Basic Uploader described above.
Select a Folder
Use the drop-down menu of folder names to choose the Picture Manager folder where you want to store the pictures when they are uploaded. You can add folder, rename, and delete folders in the Picture Manager in My eBay
Upload pictures to Picture Manager
To upload the pictures with the adjustments you made and the options you selected, click the Upload All button. While uploading, the Enhanced Uploader will display a status gauge in a popup window.
The Enhanced Uploader resizes and compresses your pictures before upload, which results in faster upload times, except when you select the option to upload and store original-size copies. In that case, upload times are comparable to the Basic Uploader.
