Picture Manager in My eBay

When you subscribe to Picture Manager you will be able to access its features from the Selling section in My eBay. If you are also subscribed to Selling Manager or Selling Manager Pro, you will be able to access Picture Manager from those sections in My eBay.

Picture Manager will appear as shown below:

Picture Manager in My eBay is the hub where you can view and manage your subscription features and your pictures stored on eBay, and can upload new pictures to eBay most efficiently.

Changing your subscription level

The status gauge at the top of the Picture Manager page shows how much storage space you are using and how much more you have available. You can upgrade or downgrade your Picture Manager subscription level at any time to change your maximum storage space. Simply click the "Adjust my storage space" link below the storage gauge. A popup window will open where you can select your new subscription level. When you close that window you'll be returned to My eBay and any change you made to your storage space will display in the gauge.

Selecting a folder and a view

To browse your pictures, first use the drop-down menu in the upper right corner to select the folder that includes the pictures you want to view. By default you will always have at least one folder. When you first subscribe, Picture Manager creates a folder for you called My Pictures. You can rename this folder or create new folders by clicking the Manage folders link next to the folder drop-down menu.

You can choose between the Thumbnail view (small pictures) shown above or the List view using the View links at the upper left of Picture Manager. The List view will display each picture's name, size, and upload date, and allow you to sort your pictures based on all three fields.

Both views show you which of your pictures are currently used in items by displaying an "In Use" link adjacent to the picture name. Clicking an In Use link will open the Picture Use page (see below), where you can view the items in which the picture is used.

Uploading new pictures

If you have unused storage space, you can upload new pictures by clicking the Add Pictures button. The Picture Manager uploader will open in a window where you can choose picture files from your computer and upload copies of them to Picture Manager folders.

Viewing picture details and Web links

To view a larger version of a picture, simply click the small thumbnail version. If you want to get the Web addresses of your pictures, select one or more pictures and click the Copy Web Links button. A popup window will open displaying the Web address of the selected pictures. Using the drop-down menu in the popup, you can select the standard eBay picture size for which you want to get the Web addresses. The stored sizes for which Web addresses are available are:

  • Thumbnail - up to 96 pixels on its longest dimension
  • Preview - up to 200 pixels on its longest dimension
  • Standard - up to 400 pixels on its longest dimension
  • Original - original dimensions if you checked the option to upload a copy of the original on your computer

Note: eBay will never increase the dimensions of your picture.

Moving pictures from folder to folder

To move one or more pictures from one folder to another, click the check boxes adjacent to the picture names and click the Move button. A page will open where you can select an existing folder or create a new folder as the destination to which the pictures will be moved. Moving pictures between folders will not affect their Web addresses.

Renaming pictures

To rename one or more pictures, click the check boxes adjacent to the picture names and click the Rename button. A page will open where you can enter new names for your pictures. Renaming pictures will not affect their Web addresses.

Deleting pictures

To delete pictures from Picture Manager click the check boxes adjacent to the picture names and click the Delete button. Note that if you delete pictures that are used in eBay items, the pictures in those items will be replaced by an eBay graphic that indicates to buyers that you deleted them. Whenever you click the Delete button a confirmation window will display first before your pictures are deleted. The message in that window will indicate if the picture seems to be in use in an active listing. If you click Cancel in the confirmation window, then the pictures you selected will not be deleted.

You can review items in which a picture is used by clicking the In Use link next to its name to open the Picture Use details page.

Note that tracking of picture use by Picture Manager is limited to listings where you select pictures to insert on the Sell Your Item Pictures & Details form and in TurboLister add picture windows. Use is not tracked and reported when you insert web links to your pictures into HTML text (e.g., into your listing's Description text).

Picture Use Page

The Picture Use page enables you to view and explore a list of the items where a Picture Manager picture was inserted into a picture slot on the Sell Your Item form Pictures & Detail page or in the Turbo Lister Add Picture window. As described above, use where you insert web links directly into HTML content is not tracked. The main intended use of the Picture Use page is to enable you to manage your storage space efficiently and to help you avoid deleting pictures prematurely.

Picture Information

The top of the Picture Use page shows a thumbnail of the picture, picture name, file size of the largest stored version (the size counted against your storage space), the upload date, the containing folder, and a "Show Web Links" link. Clicking Show Web Links opens a small popup window that displays the web links for all the stored sizes of the picture.

Picture Actions

The Rename, Move, and Delete buttons enable the same actions on the displayed picture that they enable on the main Picture Manager in My eBay page, as described above.

Item List

The item list below the picture information displays the item number, item title, and status of each item where the picture is tracked as In Use. The list can be sorted on any of these fields by clicking the field name in the title row.

The Status field displays one of three values: Active, Ended, Scheduled. Active items are those open for bids or purchase. Ended items are those that have sold or expired without being sold and that are still viewable in search results and other lists available to buyers. Items are typically viewable for 90 days following sale or expiration of the listing. Scheduled items are those you have submitted to start a later time and which are not yet viewable by buyers.
