Links Policy

eBay allows sellers to place only certain types of links within an item description. A link is any mechanism used to take a member off of the eBay site, whether static or clickable. This applies to any format used for a link that includes but is not limited to, text, images, logos or icons.

Permitted links include:
  • One link to a page that further describes the item being sold in that listing

  • One link to your email address that opens an email client for potential buyers to ask questions about the item in that listing

  • Links to photos of the item for sale

  • Links to your eBay Store listings

  • Links to your Store newsletter and mailing list names are permitted, provided that your inclusion of the mailing list names does not constitute keyword spamming or violate any other eBay policy

  • Links to your “Add to My Favorite Sellers and Stores” page

  • Links to your About Me page (in addition to the About Me icon already provided by eBay)

  • Links to an eBay Wiki article(s)

  • Links to your eBay Blog page

  • Links to your eBay My World page

  • Links that provide credits to third parties

  • One link to your listing terms and conditions (providing that the most relevant information is within the listing itself and that this page does not include any links off of the eBay Web site)

  • Embedded video in a listing provided it complies with the following requirements:

    • The video must conform to all eBay policies, including but not limited to:

      • The seller must be the owner of the underlying rights, including intellectual property rights, or authorized to distribute it by the owners of such rights.

      • The video may not solicit off-site transactions or prohibited payment methods such as Western Union.

    • The video may not include software that harms or interferes with the viewer’s machine (for example, a virus or spyware), uses it for malicious or unauthorized purposes, or violates the buyer’s privacy.

    • The video must deliver the content in flash animation format and be hosted by a site that takes strong measures to provide safe content. In an attempt to safeguard eBay members, based on current technologies and current eBay marketplace requirements, sellers may only embed video from:

Non-permitted links include, but are not limited to:
  • Links to websites or pages that offer to trade, sell or purchase goods or services outside of eBay. This applies whether it is a static URL or an active link.

  • Links to sites that solicit eBay User IDs, passwords or email addresses from buyers

  • Links that encourage buyers to place their eBay bids through a site other than eBay

  • Links or other connections to live chat systems

  • Links to videos hosted on other Web sites

  • Links to subscribe to newsletters or mailing lists hosted outside-of-eBay

Note: For more information about logos, and links to Web sites, click the “Show” link next to the Additional Information section below.

Breaches of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:

  • Listing cancellation

  • Limits on account privileges

  • Account suspension

  • Forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings

  • Loss of PowerSeller status

Additional Information

A logo used for any of the permitted links may be no greater than 88x33 pixels and it may not flash or otherwise move. (The exception to this guideline is links to your eBay listings).  A URL used as a static or clickable link may not represent, brand, or advertise a homepage URL outside of eBay, except in listings offering a domain name for sale.

For policies about specific types of links, see the Related Help topics section.

Why does eBay have this policy?

Links can allow sellers to provide potential buyers with more detailed information about their listings. This policy promotes a more level playing field by ensuring sellers do not link inappropriately thereby creating a disadvantage to those sellers who link appropriately. Listings with inappropriate links undermine the trust and legitimacy of the eBay marketplace.
