Charity listings policy

Charity listings must include details of the charity benefiting from the fundraising.

This policy was updated on 18 December 2023. Our policy guidelines have not changed, but the information about activity that doesn't follow this policy has been updated for clarity.

What is the policy?

You can list items for charity, provided you are fundraising as or on behalf of a charitable organisation that's registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission - opens in new window or tab (ACNC) and your listing meets the guidelines below.

Charity fundraising is also regulated under various state regulations, and sellers need to ensure that their fundraising on eBay complies with all applicable requirements. For more information, please visit the ACNC website - opens in new window or tab.

Items listed on eBay.com.au by a registered charity need to follow these guidelines:

  • The listing must include the charity's tax-deductibility status and ACNC registration (ABN) number
  • The following statement must be clearly visible in the listing:
    • [insert charity name] is registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission ABN [insert 11 digit ABN]

Items listed on eBay.com.au on behalf of a registered charity need to follow these guidelines:

  • You must receive advance written consent from the charitable organisation to carry out this fundraising
  • You must include the following information in your listing:
    • The charity's tax-deductibility status and ACNC registration (ABN) number
    • Your name or eBay username, and the donation amount (percentage of the final sale price) you'll be donating if your item sells

Activity on eBay is required to follow this policy, the eBay User Agreement and all applicable laws, as well as respect the rights of third parties. If it doesn't, eBay may take action consistent with applicable laws and the eBay User Agreement, and may even be legally required to do so. Such actions may include, as an example only: Removing the listing or other content, issuing a warning, restricting activity or account suspension.
