What buyers should know about postage

When you buy an item on eBay, you can feel confident about postage when you know what to expect:

Before you buy your item

Postage costs, handling time and delivery services
Consider postage costs, handling time and other delivery services before you bid on or buy an item. Review the item description carefully. If you have any questions about postage, contact the seller before you bid on or buy the item.
Important factors to consider:
  • What is the cost of postage and handling?

  • Does the seller send items to my area?

  • Can I get the item when I need it? Sellers sometimes list two or more postage services. Express postage usually costs more, but is a good option if you need the item straight away.

  • Is free Click & Collect available?

  • Can I track my package?

  • Can I get a postage discount if I buy more than one item?

  • What type of handling time does the seller offer?

If the seller offers same business day handling, the seller will send the item on the same business day you buy it, as long as the seller receives your payment by the specified cut-off time.
Your postage address
Make sure your postage address is correct. You can change or add a postage address when you pay for an item using the Pay Now button.
Some sellers may ask you to use a confirmed postage address when you purchase items with PayPal. While a confirmed address helps verify your identity, addresses outside the U.S. can't be confirmed at this time and you don't need to have one for your purchase to be eligible for eBay Money Back Guarantee.

When you buy your item

Paying for postage
You pay for postage at the same time you pay for your item. If you have questions about the total cost of your item including postage, you can request the total from the seller. Click the Request total from seller link on the Review Your Item page when you use the Pay Now button to purchase your item.
Selecting your postage method
You can select your postage method in the Order Details section on the Review Your Item page. Click the Show all postage options link next to the Postage heading. Up to three different postage options may be available for each item. The cost and estimated delivery times are displayed for each postage option.
Postage discounts
Some sellers offer to combine items into one package and offer a postage discount. You'll see your postage discounts when you purchase your item using the Pay Now button. If you have any questions about the amount, contact the seller.

After you buy your item

Tracking your item
Depending on the postage service, tracking information may be available. If the seller buys and prints postage on eBay or manually uploads tracking to eBay, you can see the tracking details and delivery status of your item in My eBay.
To see the delivery status of your item in My eBay:
  1. Go to My eBay.

  2. Click the Purchase history link on the left side of the page.

  3. Locate the item, and then click the tracking number link under the item title.

Some sellers may also include tracking information in an email.
Problems with postage
If you have a problem with postage, we recommend that you contact the seller and the postal carrier. If you still don't receive the item, contact us so we can help you work out the problem with the seller. Learn more about what to do if you don't receive an item.
Sellers can charge reasonable postage and handling fees to cover the costs for mailing, packaging, and handling the items that they sell. However, charging excessive fees for postage violates our selling practices. Review the item description carefully to make sure you understand what the postage costs are.
