Sending Payments with PayPal

PayPal is the preferred payment method for most eBay buyers and sellers. PayPal enables you to send payments quickly and securely online using a credit card or bank account and you can check the status of your payment.

With the exception of a few categories, all items paid for by PayPal on eBay.com.au will be eligible for at least AU$20,000 PayPal Buyer Protection in the event that you don't receive your item or it's significantly not as described by the seller. Conditions apply.*

Before you can send a payment using PayPal:

To pay for an item using PayPal
  1. After you've won an item, click on the Pay Now button, which you'll find in the confirmation email from eBay, on the item description page or in My eBay.

  2. Check your postal address is correct, if not click the "Change postage address" link to update it. Note: If you use PayPal, the seller may require a credit card billing address registered at PayPal, sometimes called a "confirmed" address for security purposes.

  3. Confirm the order details, including postage, insurance, and taxes. Then, click the Continue button.

Note: If you're missing total cost information or have questions about the total price, click the "Request total from seller" link. The seller will respond to your email.

  4. Select PayPal as your payment method.

  5. Log into your PayPal account and make sure that your postage details, payment method, and order details are correct. Then click Confirm Your Payment to complete the purchase.

If for some reason you are unable to pay from eBay using the Pay Now button, you can pay for eBay items directly from the PayPal website.

To pay for your item directly from PayPal:

  • Once logged into PayPal click on the Send Money tab

  • Click the Pay for eBay Items subtab and then the Pay button next to the relevant item. If necessary you an edit the amount here.

  • Click Continue and the Send Money to complete payment.

Checking the status and history of your PayPal payment

You can:

  • Check the payment status and details from My eBay or the View Item page.

  • View a more complete payment history by accessing your PayPal account.

To check the status of a payment:
  1. In My eBay click Won on the left-hand side of the page

  2. Select View PayPal Transaction from the drop-down menu next to the item.

  3. Log in to your PayPal account to review the status of your payment.
