Signing up for a PayPal account

The fastest and easiest way to pay for items on eBay is by using PayPal. To create a PayPal account, just fill out the registration form and you'll be sending your payment in no time.

Once you have a PayPal account, you can use it to purchase eBay items as well as to shop at the thousands of online merchants who accept PayPal.

PayPal Buyer Protection on eBay

With the exception of a few categories, all items paid for by PayPal on eBay.com.au will be eligible for at least AU$20,000 PayPal Buyer Protection in the event that you don't receive your item or it's significantly not as described by the seller. Check the eligibility requirements of the PayPal Buyer Protection Policy. Conditions apply.

Paying with PayPal is:

  • FAST - Pay instantly and get your item faster.

  • EASY - Use your credit card, bank account or PayPal balance to fund a payment. All you need is the seller's email address.

  • SECURE - Your financial information is not shared with the seller, and there's no risk of checks getting lost in the mail.

Verifying your PayPal account before buying

To increase trust and safety in our community, PayPal encourages members to become verified.

Additionally, you can increase the limit to the amount of money you can send with your PayPal account by becoming verified. Verification is made possible by attaching a bank account to your PayPal account.

To become verified, you need to show that you are the rightful owner of the bank account that you are attaching to your PayPal account. You will need to take the following steps:

  • Step 1: Log in to your PayPal account and click on Set up bank funding on the left hand side of your Account Overview page. When prompted, enter your bank details and review our bank funding agreement.

  • Step 2: When we have received your bank details, we will deposit two small amounts into your bank account. Wait five to seven working days for this to happen. When you see your next bank statement, make a note of these amounts.

  • Step 3: Log in to your PayPal account and tell us what these two amounts are. Click on Complete Bank Set up on the Account Overview page in the To Do List section and enter the amounts exactly as they appear on your bank statement. Therewith, you confirm that you are the actual owner of your bank account.

Your account status will then change to Verified and your sending limit should be increased.

Withdrawing money from PayPal to your bank account

You can withdraw funds from your PayPal account to a bank account attached to your PayPal account. Just follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your PayPal account.

  2. Click Withdraw at the top of the My Account Overview page.

  3. Click Withdraw funds to your bank account.

  4. Follow steps to withdraw the funds to your bank account

Please allow 3-5 business days for the funds to show up on your bank account.

Email address and password help

To log into PayPal, you must enter your email address and password.

If you are having trouble logging in to PayPal, first make sure that you are entering your email address and password correctly. Remember, you must use your full email address, in the format me@myemailprovider.com. Your password is 8 or more characters, and is case-sensitive - check to see if you left your CAPS LOCK on.

If you have forgotten your password, you can complete PayPal's password recovery process to gain access to your account. First, click the Forgot your password? link on the PayPal homepage.

Enter any email address registered with your PayPal account and click Submit. PayPal will send you an email that contains a link. When you follow the link, you will be asked to answer questions about your account - information that only you, as the account holder, would know. You may then reset your password and log in to your account.

Updating your PayPal account information

You can edit your account information, including your contact information and financial details, from your Profile page. First, log into your PayPal account, and click the Profile sub-tab. Click the link to the information you wish to edit, and make your changes.

  • Make any purchases using PayPal

  • View your PayPal account History

  1. Click the Profile sub-tab.

  2. Click the Close Account link in the Account Information column.
