Return policy required when listing on international eBay sites - FAQs

From early October 2008, international eBay sites will require sellers to specify their return policy on all listings.  If you list items on international eBay sites you'll need to specify a return policy, which for many sellers can also include a ‘No Returns Accepted’ policy*.  Failure to provide this information will mean that your international listings will not be displayed on international eBay sites.

What if I choose to post worldwide?
Sellers that list directly on eBay.com.au and choose to post to overseas buyers will not be affected by these changes.
Do I have to accept returns?
We encourage you to accept returns, as this increases buyer satisfaction. However, unless you are required by law to do so, you don’t have to have accept returns – so you could specify “No Returns Accepted” as your return policy.*
What elements of my return policy do I need to specify?
If you accept returns, you’ll need to specify the time in which the item may be returned and how you’ll provide the refund.*
What if I list an item without this information before it’s required?
Your listing will remain on the international site until it either expires or you revise your item details. You will then be required to enter information regarding your return policy if you wish to list your items on international eBay sites.
How does this affect Good ‘Til Cancelled listings?
Good 'Til Cancelled listings on international eBay sites that are live before the change comes into effect will remain visible on eBay’s international sites until the next renewal cycle. If, at that point, your listings do not include the required return policy information, they will not be automatically renewed and will be ended.  You will need to enter the return policy details in order for the listings to appear on international eBay sites.
How do I activate my return policy?

In the Additional Information section of the Sell Your Item form, take the following steps:

Select "Returns Accepted"

Select the time limit within which the buyer must return the item to you.*

Select the type of refund you will give if the item is returned.*

Enter all other details about your return policy in the Return Policy Details box.*

Or

Select ‘No Returns Accepted’*

I have thousands of listings. Is there a way to add this information to them all at once?
You can add your return policyto all your listings at once using Turbo Lister.  Use our helpful Turbo Lister guide to update your listings.

* IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR SELLERS

Some sellers must accept returns or refunds in certain circumstances under the Australian Trade Practices Act 1974 or relevant state fair trading legislation.  Your return policy does not override the requirements of consumer protection law, which may give buyers greater return and refund rights than you state in your policy.  In certain circumstances, sellers also cannot lawfully impose a specified time limit for returns or refunds.  For more information about warranties and refunds contact the ACCC Infocentre on 1300 302 502 or visit the ACCC website.
