When you contact eBay members using eBay Messages all members can safely communicate with one another.
Before you begin a communication with another member, you have the ability to hide your email address from that member. To start an anonymous conversation, select Hide my email address from <MemberID>.
When the member receives an email from you, the email header information will look similar to this:
To: From: Reply-to: | | recipientEmailAddress@theirISP.com
“eBay member: YourUserName” <member@ebay.com>
an1234567890@members.ebay.com |
Your email address isn't shared with the other member. Instead, the member will see your anonymous email address (as the reply-to address).
Recipients can respond to your message by using the Respond button in the email or they can reply directly from their personal email account. When the recipient uses their personal email account, eBay Messages will accept the reply and forward it to your real email address. eBay will forward only text and HTML (no images or attachments).
When you choose to hide your address, the email addresses for both you and the other member will be anonymous for every communication related to your initial contact. This protects the identity of both members. The messages you send through this service need to follow the guidelines for email between eBay members. As with all member-to-member communications, you can report emails that are inappropriate or that violate eBay policies.
Remember: When responding through your personal email to any member email, you need to keep track of the messages you send. Responses sent through your own email accounts won't appear in either member's Messages in My eBay.
