Contacting eBay members

It's easy to contact other eBay members to ask questions about an item or transaction, and you can always find your messages in My eBay.

Ask a question about an item

You can ask questions before, during, or after a sale. Here's how:

  1. Read the listing thoroughly. You'll sometimes find FAQs or Questions from other members in the item description or in the section below the item description.

  2. On the listing page, click the Ask a question link.

  3. On the Find Answers page, choose the topic that best fits your question, and look for your question in any Q&A that appears.

  4. If you can't find your question, under Did you find your answer? select No, I want to contact the seller, and then click the Continue button.

  5. On the Contact Seller page, enter your question in the space provided. Depending on the topic you selected in Step 3, you may be asked for additional information related to your question.

  6. Enter the verification code for security purposes, and click the Send button.

Note: Not all sellers accept questions before you buy an item, but all sellers will accept questions after you've bought an item.

Send a message to another member

You can send a message to another member through eBay Messages.

Here's how it works:
  1. Click the user ID of the member you want to email. If you know the member's user ID or email address, you can enter it on the Advanced Search page.

  2. On the member's profile page, click the Contact link.

  3. A dialog box will appear. Under For item, select an item you've bought or are watching from the drop-down menu, or select Enter item number and enter the item number of the listing you're asking about.

  4. Click the Continue button.

  5. On the Find Answers page, choose the topic that best fits your question, and look for your question in any Q&A that appears.

  6. If you can't find your question, under Did you find your answer? select No, I want to contact the seller, and then click the Continue button.

  7. On the Contact Seller page, enter your question in the space provided. Depending on the topic you selected, you might be asked for additional information related to your question.

  8. Enter the verification code for security purposes, and click the Send button.

Note: If your question is not about a specific item the member is selling, select the It's not about an item check box in step 6 above. After clicking the Continue button, you'll be taken to a page where you can enter your question and click the Send button.

We'll keep your email address, and that of the other member, confidential. You can view and respond to your messages by visiting My eBay and clicking the Messages tab. In the Contacts section on the left side of the page, click the Find & Contact a Member link.
