Even though you may have previously registered as an eBay member, when you sell an item for the first time, you will be asked to verify your identity. This is a different process to placing your credit card on file for monthly billing, and is required in order for you to sell.
Creating a seller's account is free, and your information will be kept private on eBay's secure servers.
To help provide a safe environment for the eBay community, we'll need to verify your information when you create a seller's account. You can choose to verify your information by either:
- Using your credit or debit card which displays either the VISA or MasterCard logo (this option will allow you to sell immediately)
- Having a letter posted to your street address with a confirmation code which you will have to enter on the site (this option will may take up to 5-7 days to complete during which time you will be unable to sell but able to continue bidding and buying on eBay)
When you create a seller's account, you can choose to use the same credit or debit card to pay sellers fees or you can set up alternative payment option. Remember you can make a payment or change your payment method at any time by going to the Account section on My eBay.
eBay offers three ways to pay selling fees:
- PayPal: PayPal is a secure, convenient way to automatically pay your eBay seller fees for domestic transactions*. When you set up automatic PayPal payments, your seller fees are automatically deducted from your PayPal account no sooner than 10 days after you receive your invoice. See a step-by-step instruction on paying your seller fees by PayPal.
- Credit Card on File: Each month eBay can automatically charge your invoice amount directly to a credit or debit card you place on file (Visa, MasterCard). Your credit or debit card will normally be charged 5 to 7 days after you receive your invoice.
- One-Time Credit or Debit Card: You can also make a one-time payment with your credit or debit card.
- Direct Debit from Your Bank Account: eBay can automatically deduct your monthly invoice amount from your bank account. This option is only available to sellers billed in Australian dollars with Australian bank accounts. To sign up for Direct Debit you will need to provide us with your bank account and BSB number.
- One-Time Direct Debit: Even if you do not sign up for automatic monthly payments, you can make a one-time Direct Debit payment from your bank account. Your payment will be posted to your eBay account in two business days.
- Cheque and Money Order: You can make a one-time payment using a cheque or money order. To ensure that your payment is process quickly and accurately, please enclose a payment coupon with your cheque or money order. Cheque and money order payments take 7 to 10 business days to process and post to your account.
Your payments will be due the same date each month - either the 15th of the month or the last day of the month, depending on your account's invoice date.
