Caring for your pottery
The following information is provided to educate and inform. eBay is not liable or responsible for any type of damage or loss caused, or alleged to be caused, directly or indirectly, by the information below.
Pottery items are made to be enjoyed and used. They normally do not require much special care, however, to keep pottery items looking their best, keep the following suggestions in mind.
- Dust pottery items on a regular basis.
- Hand-wash items in tepid, soapy water if they get dirty. Avoid abrasive cleaners, especially on high-gloss, expensive, or restored pieces. Don't leave items soaking - this can let moisture seep under the glaze.
- Never put collectible wares (including dishes) in a dishwasher, mainly because pottery should be protected from temperature extremes, and the heat of a dishwasher can cause crazing of the glaze. Additionally, dishes could knock against each other in a dishwasher and chip.
