Charity Information

We can help you raise money for your charity!

eBay is an excellent forum for raising money for your charity. Our experience and expertise in charity auctions means we can offer you the best service and advice.

It's very easy to hold a charity auction on eBay - here is an outline of how it works - we'll help you all the way!

Register on eBay
The first thing you need to do is to register, it is easy and it is free!

Once you have registered, your User ID will be your email address, you are given the opportunity to change it during the second stage of registration. We suggest that you change your User ID to a name relevant to your Charity's name.

Create an 'About Me' page
After completing the registration process you can create your own information page or 'About Me' page to provide information about your charity and your auctions.

There is a step-by-step guide which leads you through the process, you can choose from three different layouts, and then you just enter your information as you go. You can make your page as simple or as sophisticated as you like.

Once created, we will link to this page from the charity page, so effectively it is like your own eBay homepage.

For an example of a previous About Me page, take a look at the Silvery Gibbon Project.

Listing your item
Your next step is to list your item! Simply click on the 'Sell' button on the navigation bar on any page, or go to the Sell Your Item form and follow the instructions.

We recommend that you take our step by step, guided tour on How to Sell, or you can also refer to our Seller Guide which provides further information about the Sell Your Item process.

Our Charity page
For your charity auction, we will provide you with a promotional area on our charity page. For this you will need to provide us with:

  • A small graphic (50x50 pixels), usually the charity logo
  • A short description of your charity auction that you would like to accompany the graphic, for example, "Signed NRL flag. Click here to bid now!"
  • The url of your About Me page for us to link to
  • Your registered charity number
Promoting your Charity Auction
The more people who know about your eBay Charity Auction, the better. Creative, eye-catching promotions and spreading the word generates interest in your auction and increases the number of bids you will receive, which will then help your charity raise as much as possible. Some ideas on how you could draw attention to your auction:
  • If you have a press contact or an in-house press office, brief them to promote your auction via television, radio or print if possible.
  • If your charity has a web site or a mailing list you could include references to your About Me page or auction using this medium.
Contact Winning Bidders
Once the auction is over all you need to do is contact the winning bidders by email within 7 days to arrange payment and postage.
